The Sports Department would like to acknowledge the Teachers in Charge (TIC) of Sport. We are very privileged to have among our staff people who are passionate about sport and dedicated to seeing growth and participation of sport in school. This week we are profiling Robyn Williams, Robyn is the TIC of Hockey here at Te Aroha College. We asked Robyn why she volunteered to be a TIC at Te Aroha College, her response was, “I volunteered because I love sport and being involved in sport. I think that sport is really important for both mental and physical health and wellbeing”. We asked Robyn how she came to be a TIC of Hockey, her response was “strangely enough, I have never played a game of hockey but over the years I have developed a love of the game. When my children started at TAC the team needed a manager so I volunteered. Two years later the team needed a coach. I took on the coaching role and began researching everything there was to know to improve my skills. At the same time, I was on the Thames Valley hockey committee and took on the role of Secondary School   President”. Although Robyn’s children have left school, due to her love and investment in the sport, she remains the TIC of Hockey at Te Aroha College - what a legend! Robyn loves being active and keeping fit. In Robyn’s continual pursuit to challenge herself she is currently engaging with an ‘online running coach’ who is helping her train for the Hawkes Bay Marathon. A weeks training schedule for Robyn consists of completing a bike session, 3 gym sessions and 3 runs. Robyn believes that it is really important to keep challenging yourself and in the future she would love to compete in a 50km trail run and an adventure race. There is no doubting the dedication and motivation that Robyn has when it comes to sport and fitness - she is a great asset to the team and a great role model for our students. When Robyn was asked if she had any wise words, her response was “Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must, just never give up”. Ever thought that you might like to give Hockey a go?
