English at Te Aroha College gives students access to the understanding, knowledge, and skills they need to participate fully in the social, cultural, political, and economic life of New Zealand and the wider world. To be successful participants, they need to be effective oral, written, and visual communicators who are able to think critically and in depth.

English is about finding and nurturing a voice to tell our stories and developing an ear to hear the stories of others. It gives us the freedom to travel to other places, discover other cultures, and visit other times. We explore learning through a wide range of experiences and often choose what and how we learn. English at Te Aroha College is like a stepping stone in your life, a rudimentary thing you need to have, in order to survive the world after school.
